Our team reviews your application to understand your needs and determine if one of our puppies would be a good match for your family.
If approved, we'll discuss available or upcoming puppies and work with you to find the best match based on temperament and your preferences.
Once your puppy is ready (typically 8–10 weeks old), we’ll coordinate the hand-off. Pickup at the kennel in Elk Point, or we deliver within about 200 miles. Farther away? We’ve met families as far as Kansas City — we simply agree on a halfway point and add a fuel charge for the extra distance.
We reply to every application within 3–5 business days. If we think one of our puppies could be a good fit, we’ll talk about which litter and which puppy, and hold your place with a deposit. Puppies go home at eight weeks or older, once they have had their six-week veterinary exam, final vaccines, and microchip. If no puppy is available yet, approved families go on our waitlist and get first look at the next litter.
No. We do not ship puppies, and we don’t hand them off to couriers. Every puppy goes to its family in person — pickup here in Elk Point, South Dakota, or delivery within about 200 miles. If you’re farther away, we can still make it work: we’ve met families as far as Kansas City. We agree on a halfway point and add a fuel charge for the extra miles. We want to meet you, and we want your puppy’s first car ride to be with you.
Every puppy goes home with a written purchase agreement that includes a health guarantee, a copy of the vaccination and deworming record, and the veterinary exam from six weeks. We ask that you have your own veterinarian examine the puppy within 72 hours of pickup. The full terms are in the agreement, which we send before you pay a balance so there are no surprises.
We don’t publish prices online. Pricing depends on breed, coat, color, and registration, and we’d rather talk it through with you than have a number on a page decide for you. Once your application is approved, we’ll go over the price for the puppy you’re interested in, the deposit that holds your place, and exactly what’s included when your puppy goes home.
Like most responsible breeders, we don’t give kennel tours — the kennel itself stays closed to visitors to protect our dogs and young litters. What we do offer: once your application is approved and your deposit is placed, you’re welcome to come to our whelping room and office by appointment, sit with the litter, and meet your puppy. Many of our families have done exactly that.
A Blue Woof puppy always has a home here. If at any point in your dog’s life you can no longer keep them, contact us first — we will take the dog back or help you rehome responsibly. We never want one of our dogs to end up in a shelter.
Yes. We send you home with feeding instructions, a supply list, and the puppy’s records, and we stay in touch. Questions about house-training, feeding, crate training, or the little things that come up in the first weeks are always welcome, and we love updates and photos.
You don’t need to have owned a dachshund or a Chihuahua before. We do ask that you understand the breed you’re choosing — dachshunds need back-safe handling and ramps instead of jumping; Chihuahuas are small, bright, and need patient, gentle training. We’ll talk through all of it, and we’re happy to help first-time owners who are ready to learn.
